Listen to a
radio interview on CKUT Montreal Monday 22, 2006 7:45 am with the author Anne-Marie M Pop on "Young female, Traveling Alone"
Midwest Book Review finds it "amusing and quite engaging tale":
"...The reader will dive into the life and explorations of
lead character Anna as she discovers herself throughout the varying appeals and locations.
As Anne-Marie Pop has experienced the situations she authors Anna to have, readers will find
Young Female, Traveling Alone not only grand entertainment, but insightful and intriguing as well.
Very strongly recommended -- especially readers of nature-oriented fiction particularly in eastern Asia."
Reader Views finds it "Well written and very thought provoking":
"...The book is compelling. I found it hard to put down. I was intrigued by the different cultures and how readily some accepted the young girl while others tried to take blatant advantage of her.
I suggest it especially if you know someone who is struggling with questions about life and life's meaning. The book is meant to be a journey. I would be very curious to learn how the young girl views her life now she has returned. Well written and very thought provoking."
Bestsellersworld "This book is highly recommended.":
"...The author has written an intriguing read. Once I started reading this book it was difficult to stop. The reader will feel like they are right
there with Anna as she makes her adventurous backpacking journey throughout Asia and India. In order to undertake a journey like this alone,
it would take a great amount of courage. The author does an excellent job of making the reader feel this also. This is an inspiring story
of someone who is trying to find answers and then takes the time to do it. As she goes through her journey, the reader will experience the
many highs and lows that Anna faces. Those interested in backpacking will enjoy this book; however, all readers will enjoy this entertaining
and inspiring read by this author. This book is highly recommended."
TCM Reviews "It's so life-like, I thought it was true!":
"...Anne-Marie's book is an easy and entertaining read. It's armchair-tourism from the safety of your own home, with the tantalising promise of bringing in close, but not too close, the perils that Asia.
...Anne-Marie M.Pop's description was realistic and down to earth. No wonder, as a reviewer, one was both surprised and disappointed to read the 'fiction/general' tag on the back cover of the book. It's so life-like, I thought it was true!
Or, is it? "
Lighthouse Literary "Entertaining, intriguing and downright fun!":
"...But once I started reading about Anna's travels, I couldn't put it down. Mesmerizing and captivating to the very last detailed page.
...She creates an atmosphere that practically pulls the reader into the whole ambience of the story. I know this is one incredible trip that I will never forget. To some happiness is just having food and water on the table, to others a mountain of wealth, to Anna, perhaps just following her heart as she endures some long hard lessons. Anne-Marie M. Pop pens a very satisfying story that I found absolutely fascinating and one that I highly recommend. Entertaining, intriguing and downright fun!"
Kaye Trout's Book Reviews (KTBR) "I highly recommend this informative, inspirational and honest adventure story.":
"...
This is an inspirational story because it takes a lot of courage to leave ones comfort zone and to travel as Anna did. The author tells me that
her target audience is young travelers, particularly women, interested in visiting Asia.
The book is written in a journal-like fashion and although the chapters or entries are very short, they are fascinating, intense and yet, simply written.
Anne-Marie Pop is a good writer and there's more depth to this story than just an adventure travel log.
...
I highly recommend this informative, inspirational and honest adventure story."
Literary Kicks "the book reads like a passionate personal testament.":
"Young, Female, Travelling Alone is a travel memoir by Anne-Marie Manuela Pop. It's clear from the first few pages that traveling the world has been the author's spiritual salvation, and the book reads like a passionate personal testament. As the book begins the author is a depraved, jaded young raver in Paris, but she finds the depth she's looking for by taking off to Asia. Pop's short descriptions of places like Cambodia, Goa, Malaysia and Anjuna Beach are easy to read, though I wish the language were more distinctive."
Sime~Gen "It's a short book but tells quite a startling story.":
This is a novel inspired by the author's own travels. It's a short book but tells quite a startling story. ...
Her journey is one of self-discovery, and she seems to have achieved quite a bit of that by the end of her trip.
It is an enjoyable read, but the book is short. The reader is left wanting more. The book could have been fleshed out more with descriptions and analysis, but it's a good first effort.
